Peak power refers to the maximum amount of power the speaker can handle at any given time; while the rated power indicates the maximum constant power of the speaker, or the actual steady-state power before sound distortion or deterioration of the audio system. Peak power is the highest power that the speaker can operate under ideal conditions. This maximum power is calculated at 10-millisecond intervals until dissipation. That said, this data is not relevant nor does it guarantee quality. Unfortunately, they are often used by car speaker manufacturers as a sales pitch.
